Blizzard, in a post about Season 6, revealed that Flashpoint will be a new “core game mode” available in both Quick Play and Competitive queues. Here’s everything you need to know about Flashpoint in Overwatch 2.
Release Date: Overwatch 2 Flashpoint
According to the announcement post, Flashpoint will be launched simultaneously with the release of Overwatch 2: Invasion. This means it will be available when Season 6 begins on August 10.
Gameplay Details: Overwatch 2 Flashpoint
While no official gameplay footage has been released by the developers, the announcement post provided a brief explanation of what players can expect from Flashpoint. It seems that Flashpoint will serve as an official replacement for the Assault game mode, commonly known as Two Control Point (2CP).
The post describes the gameplay as follows: “Teams will fight for control of key positions across the map called ‘flashpoints,’ aiming to capture three of them before their opponents do.”
Based on this explanation, it appears that the game mode will be similar to Team Fortress 2’s Control Point game mode, where opposing teams battle for control points and progress deeper into the map as they capture each point. However, more information about the gameplay mechanics will be provided by Blizzard at a later date.
New Maps: Overwatch 2 Flashpoint
In conjunction with the new game mode, two new maps specifically designed for Flashpoint will be introduced. Since Flashpoint significantly differs from 2CP, the developers have created fresh layouts tailored to this mode. The announcement post included a teaser image of one of the new maps, offering a glimpse of what players can expect.
